Manager, Employee & Physician Peer Support Program
This permanent, full-time position is an exceptional career opportunity for a builder of productive relationships and high-performing teams, whose mission will be to lead a start-up project to establish and implement a new Peer Support Program for CAMH employees and physicians.
Reporting to, and working directly with, the Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development, you will be responsible for the design, development, launch, implementation and ongoing oversight of the new Employee and Physician Peer Support Program. As the Program includes a network of trained volunteer peers from a variety of areas providing confidential, individual support to colleagues who are in emotional distress, your role as Program Manager will also entail overseeing and ensuring the quality of support provided.
Throughout the start-up phase of the Program, you will lead a working group with representation from across the hospital and at all levels of the organization, including physicians and our union partners. Once the Program is implemented, you will be an integral part of a highly collaborative team within the Health Safety and Wellness Department. As such, you will work actively to advance CAMH’s Safe and Well initiative and the implementation of the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. Your mandate will also call for you to be involved in enhancing a number of support resources already in place, such as the Practice of Resilient Leadership Program, the Employee and Family Assistance Program, and the new On-Site Psychological Service.
As the Manager, Employee & Physician Peer Support Program, you will put into practice a degree in Nursing with mental health and/or crisis management training, or a master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology, or an equivalent master’s degree in Counselling, combined with at least 3 years’ post-degree crisis management or critical incident de-briefing experience with an adult population. Additionally, your profile will reveal the following strengths:
- You hold registration with the appropriate regulated health professional college, preferably enhanced by Peer Support Certification through Peer Support Canada.
- You bring a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with, and managing, an inter-professional team.
- Your experience in counselling workers of all ages includes knowledge of behavioural stages of change, social determinants of health and well-being, and appreciation of the boundaries required of the peer support role.
- You are skilled in program management and able to positively influence internal stakeholders.
- Your knowledge base includes relevant legislation (e.g. Human Rights, OHSA, AODA, WSIA, Mental Health Act, etc.); the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace; and mental health resources, both community-based and online.
- You possess advanced MS Office skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, time management, organizational, problem-solving and innovation skills.
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Peer support network experience.
